Manos Campesinas means peasant hands. The peasant’s hands that produce our Guatemala San Marcos Manos Campesinas are from the warmest region of Guatemala with the most rainfall and where the plants have the earliest flowering. The care of these peasant hands and the unique climate results in bright, clean and well-balanced coffee.
The coffees are grown on smallholder farms near the Tajumulco volcano. At the foot of the volcano is the APECAFORM Cooperative of approximately 400 producers, where the coffee is processed. The coffee is then exported through Manos Campesinas, an organization of small agricultural producers.
Manos Campesinas is a sustainable organization that is committed to protecting the environment, through the promotion and implementation of clean processes that do not put human health, wildlife, and water sources at risk. Their values are parallel to the Amrita values and the Baxendale values.
Both APECAFORM and Manos Campesinas (Inicio - Manos Campesinas) work with the producers to help them select the best plants without diseases and which display vigorous growth and production. They teach growing techniques without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, with proper plot management. These techniques are not only good for the environment, but also are good for the producer’s health.
