Buzzard's Bay Coalition Swim Event

Amrita Certified Pure Coffee was proud to be the coffee sponsor of this year’s Buzzards Bay Coalition Swim Event and Pancake Breakfast. This was our third year of sponsoring the wonderful event for clean water in and around Buzzards Bay.

Since its humble beginnings 25 years ago, the Buzzards Bay Coalition Swim Event has raised over one million dollars for clean water. Three hundred and fifteen swimmers participated in this year’s event, of which two hundred swimmers were first time swimmers. Swimmers ages ranged from 12 to 78 coming from 160 different communities and 17 states. So far this year the event has raised over $153,000.00. Larry Fish of West Falmouth has pledged $50,000 if the Coalition reaches its goal of $157,000.00 for this year. Donations will be accepted through July 31, 2018. Amrita will pledge $1 for each bag of coffee sold on our website through July 30, 2018.

The funds raised by the Buzzards Bay Coalition Swim Event allow the Coalition to host educational, family fun activities around Cape Cod, improve the quality of water around Buzzards Bay and land preservation.

The Coalitions works with government agencies to insure that environmental laws are enforced and provide data to improve the water in Buzzards Bay and surrounding area.

Some of the funds are used to purchase properties around Cape Cod and maintain them as nature preserve for everyone to enjoy. The most recent addition is nearly 50 acres of rich salt marshes along secluded Shell Point Bay in Onset. These salt marshes will soon become a destination for paddling, boating, fishing, and exploring. The land is now be permanently protected as part of the Coalitions developing Onset Bay Center.

The Coalition through the Onset Bay Center, Richarard C Wheeler Bay Learning Center, the Emerson Riggs Laboratory, the Woods Hole Outreach Center provide opportunites for visitors to learn about the water quality, nature around Cape Cod and how to help the support clean water through everday activities. For the community The Buzzards Bay Coaltion offers hiking, paddling, shellfishing, sailing and shoreline ecology activities for the entire family to learn about nature, wildlife and how to protect our environment throughout the year.
