The kingdom

Amrita Island was developed in the late 1800’s by the Baxendales, an affluent Victorian-age couple.

After traveling the world, the Baxendales found a "little green island in the heart of Buzzards Bay" and immediately felt at home.

Amrita Island was designed and developed with the intention of world peace. Educational talks were to be held each year and the island itself would serve as a sanctuary “Safe from Snares” for all who entered.

The island included 5 mega cottages on 11 acres.

Each cottage had running water and electricity – all had a sailboat, and one had a tennis court.

Safe from Snares

The Baxendale family coat of arms.

Throughout the island, Blue Heron birds are featured. Engraved on the Feudal fieldstone bridge and carved into the molding of Island Haven – the bird symbolizes the Baxendale mission – safe from snares and safe for everyone.
